Curriculum
The High School of Saint Thomas More offers a challenging curriculum with an emphasis on college preparation. Our faith-based academic program provides a strong foundation of skills and knowledge toward the goal of lifelong learning. The curriculum is under constant review for scope and sequence—part of a school improvement model to support cross-curricular opportunities for STM students.
Recognized by the Illinois State Board of Education and accredited by the North Central Association as a college preparatory institution, The High School of Saint Thomas More is one of only two schools in Champaign County to have such an accreditation (the other being University High School at the University of Illinois).
Individualized attention is the standard at Saint Thomas More—not the exception. Classes are small, averaging less than 20 students, so that students may engage in active learning experiences with their teachers and work in small, cooperative groups with their classmates. Every student is respected for his or her own learning style but is still challenged to achieve his or her maximum potential.
Students benefit from a strong core academic program that includes different levels of math, science, English, and history. Saint Thomas More is also committed to providing a fine arts program with courses in band, chorus, drama, and visual arts.
The facilities at Saint Thomas More are state-of-the-art, including its library, computer lab, chemistry and biology labs, art and music studios, and performance stage and cafetorium. Each classroom has Internet access. The school also features a full-size gymnasium that is equipped with a professional weight-training center.
Students receive thorough college counseling throughout their high school career at Saint Thomas More. The guidance office provides assistance specific to the needs of each student—from career interest surveys to sourcing subject tutors. Our counselors also work with the students and their families in providing resources for college selection and scholarships.
