Principal’s Report: Millage reported on the ABO dues and the previous discussions held regarding participation fees. Millage noted it is important to maintain the ABO which includes the dues associated with it. The ABO has done a good job this year in helping offset the deficit we were faced. To avoid this in future years, the ABO dues will become a mandatory fee for any family whose child/children participate in any sport. Whether it is 1 sport or 3 sports a child participates in, there will be a mandatory $100.00 ABO fee per family. Tracking of this will need to be done closely. These fees are needed to cover the many expenses associated with the sporting events (i.e. equipment, uniforms, referees, bus services, maintenance of facilities, etc.).Concessions: Larry Swinyer gave an update on the concessions budget to date. To date the concessions has collected $17,000 and have had $7,000 in expenses. Products will continue to be purchased through Pepsi. Mr. Swinyer has been in contact with Mr. Comet regarding the possibility and feasibility of having Saber Water made available for sale in our concessions stand. This would be bottled water with a Saber decal on the front.Booster Bowl: Most recent bowling event held on March 7th with approximately 60 + people that attended. Profit for the night was $540.00. A good time was held by all. Will plan to continue with a bowling event such as this in next years activities.Scholar Athlete Award: Plaque has been designed and wording approved. This will be a plaque kept at the school with the award winner names posted yearly. Selection of a medallion for the individual award has been completed along with design. Cost for the set up fee and 5-year supply of these will be $340.00.

ABO Dinner: Looking for someone to co-chair along with Candy Rollins. This position would be to oversee what and how things are done so this person could take over the chair position for the following year. Submit any names or volunteers you may know for this to Kay Reiser.

Saber Wear Committee: Shelly Schweighart and Rose Asklund have agreed to help with this Committee for next year. Meeting will be convened in the near future to get started on the process.

One major concern is the on-line ordering process; this has not yet begun and is something that needs to be done. People who want to order items don’t know how, don’t know what is available or can’t see what is available, this is a concern. Sales could improve if we had something on-line for people to view and place their orders. Discussions held about possible have a display case in which the items available for purchase could be displayed so people can see what it is they actually are buying.

Football/Track Facilities: No track meets will be held at STM this year due to the fence not being installed ? fencing is mandatory for any track meets for liability purposes. The signage for the field needs to be completed along with the flip down seats.

Fall Sports Kick-off/Family Fun Night:
August 23rd is the date for this event. Will expand a little from what was done last year and start a little earlier to allow football players to participate in some of the events.

Next meeting will be April 9th at 5:30 p.m. in the school library.

Meeting adjourned.

Athletic Directors Report - Dan Hennessey:

STM will be hosting the Girls Basketball Regionals the week of February 3, 2008?? the other host site is PBL. There will either be 5 of 6 teams here. Games will be played on
Monday, Thursday and Friday evening of this week. This will be a very busy week. Concessions, gate and the hospitality room duties will need to be handled by the girls basketball team parents.

Senior nights are set as follows:
Girls Basketball - January 28th.
Wrestling - January 29th.
Boys Basketball -February 5th

Principals Report -Tim MillageSTM was recently the host for the 8th grade girls state basketball tournament and also host site for the Blue Star Event.

The Girls basketball team participated in the State Farm Classic over Christmas break. This is a great event to be a part of for STM and the girls did very well in the tournament.

Major repairs are needed on the bleachers in the gym. The metal underneath them is bent which makes retracting the bleachers very very difficult. To fix this problem it will cost over $10,000. Repairs are scheduled to be done in April. There is no safety issue with the bleachers the problem is strictly in setting them up and retracting them.

Concessions: Larry Swinyer has agreed to take over the concession duties replacing the Kennickers.
Larry has been working with the Kennickers to learn the process of the concession duties. We thank Larry for taking on this task!
It should be noted that at this time, there will be no other sports added to STM. We have other needs that must come first which includes maintenance of what we have with our current sporting activities. We financially cannot afford to add any other activities at this time.New Event: Booster Bowl
The ABO will be hosting a Booster Bowl which is scheduled for January 25th at Old Orchard Lanes. This is more of an adult night out for fun and not a fundraiser. There will be a 50/50 drawing and a few prizes awarded throughout the night. Spread the word to everyone as it is open to all! Information on this can be found on the STM website. Flyers will be sent to feeder schools inviting those parents and posted in church bulletins.

Scholar Athlete Award - Sponsored by ABO

This is a new award the ABO will present to a Senior boy and Senior girl and will be based on a point system. The individuals receiving the award will be announced and presented with it at the Senior awards luncheon.2008 ABO Dinner

In desperate need of Chairs for this event for 2008!
Lisa Bechtel and Kindy Stewart have agreed to chair the auction basket aspect of the event again and are looking for a co-chair who would take over for the 2009 event.

2008 STM Golf Outing

Mark Tate is chair of this event for 2008. Greg Einck and Kay Reiser will be going along with Mark to visit Stone Creek as they have expressed an interest in being the host site for the outing this year. Lincolnshire has been very gracious to us for past outings and much consideration and discussion will need to be taken when deciding where the event will be held. Both sites have a lot to offer.
Sporting Programs
Brad Noe, Custom Color, has graciously agreed to print programs free of charge for STM. We thank Brad and Custom Color for volunteering to do this!

Participation Fees With the rising costs involved and the numerous sporting activities at STM, another avenue to cover these costs must be explored. The Pastors Board has final approval on all issues and they will be asked to review our situation as it regards covering the costs of our sporting events at STM. This will need to be reviewed soon so it can be implemented for the next school year.50/50 Drawings

No policy has been set for these drawings. Suggestion made that for the next school year a Sub-Committee be formed to handle the 50/50 drawings at sporting events. All 50/50 drawings will be for the ABO??with the deficit we face covering charges for our sports, we need to look at all avenues in putting money back into the ABO.

Immediate NeedsSTM desperately is in need of a commercial ice machine in the training room! ??The one currently in there does not work and we are continuously using the one from the kitchen which is much smaller. Having an ice machine in the training room for our sporting events, injuries, etc. is an immediate need. Next meeting scheduled for February 13th at 5:30 p.m.

Meeting adjourned at 6:35 p.m.

Opening prayer and welcome by Greg Einck.

Bridget To, Director of Finance, updated our group on the athletic budget. With our success of the golf outing and the recent ABO dinner we have closed the gap for the projected loss. The remaining loss hopefully will be covered with the projected income from concessions and recovering our outstanding athletic booster dues. As a reminder for the group, we discussed our current avenues to fund athletics i.e. (Annual Golf Outing, Annual ABO dinner, ABO dues, Great Saber Raffle, Gala, Concessions, and Saber Spirit Wear). It is very important to support all of these events which are vital in supporting athletics.

Dan Hennessey, Athletic Director, gave an update on the 2008 and 2009 football seasons. Tri-Point has dropped football from its schedule. That will mean we are looking for an opponent for week 9 of our seasons. He also praised all of our fall sports for a very successful year. With the success, 8 banners are being created to hang in the gymnasium for the various championships that were won.

Jill Kunas gave an update on the recently completed Cowboy Corral Dinner dance. The event raised over $40,000 dollars which was an increase of $6800 dollars from 2006. Thanks were given to Jill Kunas and Susie Carroll from Greg Einck and Kay Reiser for chairing the event for the past two years. We are currently looking for new co-chairs for next year’s event which will be held in November of 2008.

David Parkhill talked about the upcoming meeting (11/15/2007) to discuss the proposals for the first annual ABO Scholar Athlete Award given to one male and one female. More details to follow as they become available.

Rod Schweighart suggested on having an ABO Bowling Fun Night for the adults. It was suggested this event not focus on fundraising but to be a fun night for parents. It was suggested this event be held sometime in late January or early February. Everyone agreed so Rod will look into locations and dates for our next meeting.

Greg Einck announced that Mark Tate accepted the offer to be the chairman for the 2008 ABO Golf Outing. There will be a kickoff meeting on Thursday November 15, 2007 at Village Inn at 5:30 p.m. All are welcome to attend!

Jayne Wachtel presented the idea of having the athletic department submit names for the IHSA Scholar Athlete Individual Awards. Lynn Clarkson brought examples from other schools with similar awards. Everyone agreed the award would be a good idea. Greg Einck will follow up with Tim Millage to discuss the proposal.

Next meeting will be a social hour with the date to be determined in December.

January 8, 2008 at 5:30 p.m. in the STM library will be the next regularly scheduled meeting.

All are welcome to attend!

Welcome and opening comments by Greg Einck.

ABO Dinner: Jill Kunas and Susie Carroll gave an update on the ABO dinner. Dinner will be held on November 2, 2007 at St. Matthew?s Grand Hall. Social hour will begin at 6:00 p.m. with dinner at 7:00 p.m. and dancing will begin at 9:00 p.m. with the band ?No Secret? playing until 11:30 p.m. All plans are underway and hoping event is a huge success. Anticipating expenses to be less than what we had last year

Saber Wear: Sales are going well. Have had a quite a few sales by setting up a stand at home football games. Sold a lot of merchandise at the homecoming game. All items from previous orders have been filled and mailed out. Hoping to get a link on the website up and running for order to be placed directly on-line. Estimate a profit of $857 from sales at and after registration. At homecoming sold $1,300 worth of merchandise ? not sure of profit off of this yet.

Grandparent?s day is coming up and are planning to have something up and running by then as many grandparents like to buy things for their grandchildren for gifts.

Any suggestions for new items should be forwarded to Nancy Sullivan or Jayne Wachtel.

Need to remember the saber logo and any other logos used at the school are our (STM) trademark and permission must be obtained for it to be used on anything.

Policy on clothing needs to be worked on.

50/50 Drawings: Suggestion made to assign this to the sport and that sport would be responsible for running the 50/50 drawing and all funds would go directly to the ABO. This issue needs to be discussed in further detail and do not want to change mid-way through the year. Will work with it as is for the time being until a policy can be established.

Concession Update: Concessions at recent home football games has gone very well. The recent youth football league had their season end tournament a STM and the concession stand was opened for this ? took in $1,300. We recommend we work with this group for the future to see if they would want to use our facilities again. Large crowd and could expand on what we sell and make more money.

Contact has been made with Larry Swinyer and he has expressed interest in taking over the concession duties for the next 2 years. Follow-up will be made on this issue.

Principal?s Report: Thanks from the Principal to all the great volunteers we have at STM. At the football game against St. Joe several comments were made what a great job our school did in hosting them. Thanks again to the Kennicker?s for all the hard work they do!

Athletic Director?s Report: Boys and Girls golf going great ? both teams head to State this weekend and hoping for some good outcome.

Sports Programs: A suggestion was made previously (few meetings back) regarding the publishing of a sports program booklet to be handed out at home games. Further research was done on this idea and feel it would be wonderful to have, however it would be costly. Concern brought forward regarding this as to the local companies/businesses that may be contacted to advertise in this to cover the cost of the printing ? concern is that many local businesses are already contacted for donations for other events such as the Gala or Golf Outing and we would not want to go to the same people.

There are companies that put all this together for the school and get the advertising ? if a listing could be provided of prospective businesses to contact to see if they would be willing to place an ad in these programs for Kay Reiser to review and approve, it might work. Tim Millage will look into getting more info on this to see if it would be feasible to do at STM.

Meeting adjourned with next meeting scheduled for November 14th at 5:30 p.m.
